About TypingBIRDS

Last updated: July 2026

TypingBIRDS is a free typing tutor built around one idea: learning to type should feel like play, not homework. Instead of staring at a bare test, you race birds, chase personal bests, earn stars on lessons, and watch your speed grow week by week — and if you're a teacher, you get a live dashboard of exactly how your whole class is doing, without collecting a single student email address.

The name is more deliberate than it sounds: BIRDS stands for Build Instant Response & Data-entry Speed — a real, measurable outcome, not just a game theme. Read the full story of why that dual meaning matters in Why TypingBIRDS Stands for More Than a Game.

What You Can Do on TypingBIRDS

  • Practice: guided lessons with a finger-guide keyboard, timed tests, paragraphs, quotes, numbers, symbols, and drills built from the exact keys you mistype.
  • Race: type against AI birds — or your own ghost from a previous run — across multiple languages and difficulty levels.
  • Classes: teachers can create a class, share a join code, and follow every student's WPM and accuracy from one dashboard. Students can join as guests — no accounts needed.
  • Leaderboard: all-time and weekly rankings for a bit of friendly competition.
  • Dashboard: your own lessons, weak-key heatmap, drill history, and certificates, all in one place.

Our Mission

Typing is one of those skills schools expect students to pick up almost by accident — handed a keyboard and told to figure it out. We think it deserves the same structured, encouraging approach as any other skill: clear lessons, honest feedback on exactly which keys are slowing you down, and a reason to come back tomorrow. TypingBIRDS exists to make that practice free, gamified, and — for classrooms specifically — genuinely usable, even when half the students don't have an email address yet.

Our Story

TypingBIRDS started as a simple typing race between colorful birds — a way to make a fairly dry drill feel like a game. As real teachers started using it with real classes, the gaps became obvious fast: young students without email couldn't sign in anywhere, and teachers had no way to see who was actually improving. Both became real features — a student login system built entirely around a memorable code instead of an email address, and a teacher dashboard with live class rosters and printable reports. Along the way, we also added first-class support for Punjabi typing fonts (Raavi and AnmolLipi), since that's an audience most typing tools still handle poorly. The bird race is still there; it's just not the whole story anymore.

What Makes TypingBIRDS Different

  • Ghost Racing — race against a replay of your own best run, not just a static number, so improvement feels visible in real time.
  • No-email student login — a student joins a class with a code and gets a permanent, memorable login of their own, so a class of kids without email addresses can each keep their own progress on any shared school computer.
  • Live teacher dashboards — rosters, weekly PDF reports, and printable student codes, so a teacher can see the whole class's WPM and accuracy without chasing anyone down. See our guide on typing games for the classroom.
  • Weak-key coaching — a personal heatmap of exactly which keys you keep mistyping, with a one-click drill built from just those keys.
  • Punjabi typing done properly — Raavi Unicode and AnmolLipi fonts, because most typing sites treat Punjabi as an afterthought or don't support it at all. Prepping for a government exam? Read our Punjab typing test guide.
  • Certificates that keep raising the bar — earn one, and the next one asks for 5 WPM more, so the goalpost never just sits still.

Why Trust TypingBIRDS

  • Built and actively maintained by people who use the platform themselves.
  • Continuously improved based on real classroom feedback, not guesswork.
  • Used by students, teachers, developers, and job seekers — not one narrow audience.
  • Updated regularly with new features, fixes, and performance improvements.

How We Test New Features

Every feature on TypingBIRDS gets tried against real-world use before it ships broadly — a new drill, a classroom tool, a performance fix. We gather feedback from teachers, students, and everyday typists, refine the rough edges, and only then roll it out to everyone. If something feels off, that's exactly what our feedback channel is for.

Our Principles

  • Core typing practice stays free.
  • No sign-up required to start practicing.
  • Fast, lightweight pages — no bloated downloads to start typing.
  • Privacy first — we collect what we need to run the product, and nothing more.
  • Works on whatever device you already have, phone or desktop.
  • Continuous, honest improvement over big one-time promises.

Who We Build For

  • Students learning touch typing for the first time, lesson by lesson.
  • Teachers running a typing class for 20–35 students at once.
  • Developers who want to practice typing symbols and code syntax, not just prose — see our typing practice for programmers guide.
  • Job seekers who need a real WPM/accuracy benchmark for an application.
  • Government exam aspirants preparing for Punjab's official Raavi typing tests — try the PSSSB Punjabi typing test, built to the board's own rules.

Technology

TypingBIRDS runs entirely in the browser — no installation, no app store. It's built on modern web technology with Firebase handling accounts and class data, which is also why sign-in is optional: a guest's practice history lives right in their own browser, and signing in with Google just lets it follow them to another device.

Privacy

We collect what we need to run the product and nothing more — no ad-tracking network, no selling of student data, no unnecessary personal information. A full breakdown of exactly what's stored and why is in our Privacy Policy.

About the Team

TypingBIRDS was created by the EduNexus team with the goal of making typing practice engaging, accessible, and free. The platform continues to evolve through direct feedback from teachers, students, developers, and competitive typists.

What We're Working On

  • More practice modes and additional language support
  • Deeper teacher-dashboard analytics
  • Continued mobile performance improvements
