Privacy Policy
TypingBIRDS ("we", "us") is a typing practice and typing-class tool. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled.
Information we collect
- Account info (signed-in teachers/students): if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google — we don't see or store your Google password.
- Guest info: if you join a class as a guest, we store the name and roll number you type in, plus a random anonymous ID generated for that session. We don't require an email or any other personal detail from guests.
- Class & typing data: class names, class codes, and your typing stats (WPM, accuracy, session count) are stored so teachers and classmates can see progress and rankings.
- Usage data: we use Firebase Analytics (built on Google Analytics), which automatically collects general usage data like pages visited, device/browser type, and approximate location (city-level, from IP address) to help us understand how the app is used.
- Payment information (School admins on a paid plan): if a school subscribes to a paid plan, payment is handled entirely by Razorpay, our payment processor. We never receive or store your card, UPI, or bank account details — only which plan was purchased, the billing cycle, and the subscription's expiry date. How we use this information
- To run core features: typing practice, races, classes, and leaderboards.
- To let a class's teacher see their students' roster and progress.
- To let classmates in the same class see each other's ranking, for friendly competition.
- To understand overall usage and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who can see your data
Your name, roll number, and typing stats within a class are visible to that class's teacher and to other students in the same class. They are not visible to anyone outside that class.
Where data is stored
Data is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, and Analytics), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure.
Children's Privacy
TypingBIRDS is frequently used in classroom settings, including by students under 18 — often without an email address at all. We built the product around that reality, and our practices follow the same principles that laws like COPPA (in the US) and FERPA (for US school records) are built on, even where we aren't formally certified under either:
- Data minimization. A student joining a class without an email address only ever provides a name and, optionally, a roll number — nothing else is required, and no email, phone number, or home address is ever collected from a student.
- School/teacher consent model. Student accounts are created within a teacher's class, using a code the teacher controls and shares. We rely on the supervising teacher or school to have whatever permission their institution requires before students use the app — the same model COPPA recognizes for school-authorized tools.
- No behavioral advertising, ever. We don't run ad-tracking networks and we don't build advertising profiles from any student's activity — see "How we use this information" above.
- Data stays inside the class. A student's name, roll number, and typing stats are visible only to their own class's teacher and classmates — never to anyone outside that class, and never sold or shared with third parties.
- Parent/guardian access and deletion. A parent or guardian can request to review or delete a child's data at any time — contact us using the details below, and we'll act on it directly rather than routing you through the school.
- Teacher-controlled removal. A class's teacher can remove any student from their class at any time, which permanently deletes that student's session history and login code for that class.

Your choices
- You can sign out at any time from the profile menu.
- You can ask us to delete your account data or a class's data — see Contact below.
- Guest sessions aren't tied to an email and can't be "signed out of" in the traditional sense — closing the browser or clearing site data ends that session.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
